History

Set on twenty two acres of land, with stunning mountain views and direct access to the Macdonald river, ‘Homedale’ was originally a family-run dairy. The classic early 1900s homestead, with its wide wraparound verandahs has been recently renovated to offer spacious, family friendly accommodation. Original heritage features have been retained throughout, alongside the addition of modern comforts for guests.

St Albans was first named Macdonald, after the river on which it is located. In 1841 it was renamed St Albans after a town of the same name in Hertfordshire, England. Today, St Albans is a picturesque village and popular weekend spot for Sydneysiders, with many historic buildings to admire, including the Settlers Arms, a charming sandstone two-storey pub that dates to 1836.

Accommodation

Four comfortable bedrooms sleep up to 10 guests, making Homedale the perfect country escape for families or small groups of friends. There are three queen rooms, and the fourth has four single beds - an ideal bedroom for children. All are fitted with Egyptian cotton Logan and Mason linens, and black out blinds ensure a blissful night’s sleep, waking to peaceful country surrounds.

The main bathroom features a large shower, deep clawfoot bath for long soaks, and complimentary luxurious Lanopearl bath and body products. A full laundry also allows for longer stays.

The gourmet farmhouse kitchen, featuring the original cast iron oven, is fully equipped for you to cook all your favourite meals. There are plenty of pantry staples, coffee machine, and the open plan kitchen/dining area allows everyone to enjoy meals together. Outside, there are also several areas for dining al fresco, with a BBQ and large outdoor dining setting commanding stunning country and mountain views.

Play board games in the lounge room, or curl up on one of the outdoor sofas on the verandah with a good book. For the kids, there’s also a playroom with plenty of books, toys and games. Should you need to work, or just want to catch up on your favourite Netflix shows, Homedale also has complimentary high speed WiFi.

Homedale’s setting is exquisite in all seasons - with mature trees, plenty of lawns to play cricket or kick the football, as well as direct river access for swimming, canoeing, fishing, or an afternoon picnic.

Unwind in the outdoor hot tub with a glass of bubbly, while the games shed with skate ramp, trampoline, and table tennis keeps the kids entertained for hours. Come evening, gather around the fire pit for marshmallows under clear starry skies.

An absolutely stunning countryside retreat! The picturesque surroundings were beautiful, peaceful and serene. The house is very comfortable and we felt right at home. Loved the hot tub, games shed, and relaxing by the fire pit, and our host was incredibly welcoming. Can’t wait to return!
