Bridge Street Cottage, c. 1890
Sleeps 4 | Bedrooms 2 | Bathrooms 1
Historic Stanthorpe, in Queensland’s Granite Belt, was originally known as Quart Pot Creek. A mining rush to find alluvial tin in 1872 gave Stanthorpe its name - ‘stannum’ is Latin for tin, and ‘thorp’ is English for village. Bridge Street Cottage, situated in the heart of Stanthorpe, is a classic Queenslander built high on stilts that dates to around 1890. Recently the cottage was fully renovated to the highest standard by owner & host Nicki, and is now ready for guests to enjoy.
Bridge Street Cottage retains much of its endearing Queenslander period character and charm, including external & internal fretwork, fireplaces in the lounge and kitchen, original windows, doors and floorboards, high ceilings, and wood-lined walls and ceilings. Two light and airy bedrooms sleep up to four guests - the master bedroom with king bed, and twin bedroom with two king singles. All beds are dressed with luxurious linens and quilts, have electric blankets for the cooler months, and each room has been beautifully decorated with the help of Tina Kent of Lady Chatterley’s Affair
The large, modern country style kitchen is a dream for those who love to cook. It has everything you need to prepare gourmet meals, including an induction cook top, oven, microwave and dishwasher. It also has KitchenAid appliances, Wedgwood china, quality saucepans and cooking knives, platters, cheese boards and serving bowls. Nespresso coffee pods, organic loose leaf tea & pantry staples are provided for your use, along with a complimentary bottle of wine.
A light-filled dining area with farmhouse table, Bentwood chairs and antique buffet is a beautiful space to enjoy meals in. The lounge room features a leather Chesterfield sofa, feather cushions, comfortable vintage armchairs, books & magazines, and a gorgeous open fireplace, with ample firewood available. Antique furniture, vintage curios and artwork throughout the cottage has been carefully curated to create a warm, welcoming and relaxed country feel.
An elegant black & white bathroom features a claw foot bath, large walk-in rainwater shower, complimentary Ecostore amenities and thick, fluffy towels. Laundry facilities allow for longer stays, including Ecostore laundry products for your use. Stanthorpe experiences hot summers, but is one of Queensland’s coldest areas during winter months, and the cottage has both ducted air conditioning and heating throughout.
The shaded front verandah is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of local wine at sunset. From the verandah, you can look out across the township and Quart Pot Creek that flows through Stanthorpe. There’s a BBQ with outdoor table, for dining al fresco on those magical warm evenings. The cottage also has a large garden for you to relax in, with lush green lawns, ornamental plums and pears, and a mature fig tree, producing an abundance of delicious figs in late summer.
With true Queenslander charm, Bridge Street Cottage will make you feel like you’re on holiday the moment you walk down the front path. With thoughtful attention to detail in every delightful room, this is a special country home that’s the perfect escape from city life, and the Granite Belt is right on your doorstep to discover.
