The Barn Loft at Marybank Estate, 1842

History

Nestled on 60 acres at the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges and adjacent to Blackhill Conservation Park, Marybank Estate is a tranquil and peaceful escape, despite being situated just 15 minutes from Adelaide.

With a long family history of farming and winemaking, owners and hosts Brie Lloyd & Billy Bain are the sixth generation to live here. With its original Georgian homestead and stone barn building, Marybank has remained relatively unchanged since the 19th century, and still captures the simplicity and beauty of Australian farming life.

Accommodation

Built from local stone, the converted barn building at dates to 1842, originally housing stock feed for dairy cows and sheep on the farm. In 1997, the barn was renovated to include an upper level, creating a cosy and intimate loft space for guests. Rich in history, yet with all modern conveniences, the loft features original exposed wooden beams and keystones.

Marybank offers an unforgettable blend of rustic charm and luxurious comfort, combined with warm genuine hospitality from your hosts. The perfect romantic getaway for couples, or quiet sanctuary for solo travellers, the barn loft is surrounded by the beauty of nature.

With a light, airy interior, the loft features a king bedroom with quality linens, and the clawfoot bath overlooking the gum trees is a wonderful place to relax at the end of each day.

Unwind in the cosy lounge room with a good book and glass of local wine in front of the open fire.

In the well-stocked kitchenette, you’ll find generous breakfast provisions of yoghurt, fresh sourdough bread, butter, condiments, seasonal fruit, milk and juice. A bottle of Marybank’s own Shiraz is also included as part of your stay.

Just off the kitchen is your own private balcony with outdoor setting - a lovely place to have your morning coffee while listening to birdsong.

Guests are welcome to explore seven acres of rambling sustainable gardens across the Estate, along with a further seven acres of vineyards with an outdoor deck that captures stunning sunset views over Adelaide.

During Spring and Summer, the gardens are in full bloom, with the ranunculus blooming from the end of August through to mid-September, and dahlias flowering from January to April. Admire gorgeous floral displays, and find a quiet corner in the garden for an afternoon picnic.

The most magical romantic stay. The barn was full of history and charm, and was a very special and memorable experience. The clawfoot bath, the wood fire, breakfast provisions, and views over the vineyard were all wonderful. Can’t wait to visit again!
