Steeped in history, the stately property Glenellyn House was built c.1880, originally constructed for Maitland’s Police Magistrate and his staff. The house sits up high overlooking the beautiful Hunter Valley, and is situated opposite the historic Maitland Court House and gaol. Originally connected by steam train, the old East Maitland train station and tracks are only a short stroll away.
There are three flexible accommodation options available. A suite in the Servants Quarters for 1-2 people, where you can select the bedroom of your choice, with modern ensuite and access to the courtyard. The Servants Quarters is a 2 bedroom self-contained cottage for up to 4 guests; and for larger groups of up to 10, the entire property can be booked directly with your host, Georgina.
The Servants Quarters has been restored as a stylishly-appointed cottage for couples. Both bedrooms have queen beds & quality linens, furnished in a rustic, relaxed country style. Each bedroom has a modern ensuite bathroom with luxury amenities.
There’s a spacious, comfortable sitting room with fireplace, and a sunny courtyard with table & wrought iron chairs overlooking the lawn & beautiful cottage gardens. Complimentary WiFi is included, and the cottage has air conditioning & heating throughout. High ceilings, cedar woodwork, original floorboards, windows and fireplaces add to the historic charm of the home.
The grand old house ‘Glenellyn’ accommodates up to 10 guests, making it the perfect destination for a special gathering of family & friends, or those attending a wedding nearby. Booking the entire property includes the Servants Quarters cottage, as well as three additional bedrooms with queen beds, and two bathrooms with deep clawfoot baths.
‘Glenellyn’ has a fully-equipped butler’s kitchen with modern appliances, tea & coffee, and breakfast provisions can be arranged. Enjoy dinner in the formal dining room, or breakfast together in the sunroom at the large farmhouse table. With access to the entire property, you can enjoy relaxing in the sitting room, sunsets on the front verandah, drinks in the courtyard, and exploring the established gardens.

Glenellyn House is two hours from Sydney, and 10 mins from the centre of Maitland. Tour Maitland Court House and gaol built in 1844, now a significant tourist destination in the Hunter Valley. Maitland also has a wonderful regional art gallery, boutique shops, cafes and restaurants. It’s an easy drive to the historic old river port Morpeth, that was the largest town in the Hunter Region from the 1850s until around 1890. A picturesque drive takes you to Hunter Valley’s world-class vineyards and cellar doors.
