Majorca Martini Suite, 1929
History
Completed in 1929, the Majorca Building in Flinders Lane is a heritage icon in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. This magnificent neo-Romanesque building was designed by Harry Norris, a renowned Australian architect. Norris frequently incorporated American styles into his work, inspired by Spanish Colonial Revival architecture that was popular in the United States at the time. This is evidenced by the Majorca’s stunning blue faience tiles, gold leaf-shaped and rope ornamental mouldings, and opulent entry foyer and staircase featuring terrazzo tiling and marble.
Enter through the secure entry foyer, then take one of the ornate polished copper lifts up to your apartment accommodation on the 4th floor. Beautifully preserved, The Majorca Martini Suite features original steel windows, high ceilings, polished floorboards, and gorgeous city vistas. Sympathetically designed to reflect the building’s era, your hosts Marita and Kiki have created an fabulous ode to the Jazz Age, a time of glamour and decadence, with outstanding attention to detail.
