Welcome to Historic Stays

It may seen ironic to launch a new site featuring historic accommodation, when millions of us are currently in lockdown or unable to travel. Yet on the other hand, it’s all the more reason to. Contemplating all the wonderful places we can experience, once restrictions lift, is food for the soul. We’re also rediscovering our own backyard, with the strengthening of local and domestic travel markets. How lucky are we to have Australia as our backyard to explore!

I’ve always been a bit of a nomad at heart, and have fond memories of long country road trips, staying in tiny motels and old guesthouses. Living in England twice during my childhood also sparked an early appreciation for heritage architecture - and as an adult, this love has grown into a passion! I believe some of us have an inexplicable pull towards historic buildings…we appreciate and value their beautiful period detail; we want to rescue them and discover their stories.

Historic accommodation has always been my preference and know it is for many others, too. From the grandeur of a large hotel in a significant heritage building, boutique guesthouse with elegant guest rooms, or a tiny, quirky cottage, when there’s unique period detail and character to admire, it just makes your stay so much more special.

Historic Stays will support and shine a spotlight on beautiful, important heritage and historic accommodation around Australia. As time marches on, it’s all the more reason to showcase these beautiful properties that remain standing for us to enjoy, thanks to the owners’ efforts in restoring and caring for our built heritage.

If you have any feedback, suggestions, or recommendations of a historic stay we should feature, please contact us. We’d love to hear from you!
